The Business Development Corporation’s Board functions as the governance for all Onion Lake businesses. Growth plans are built by the operating business’s chief executive and reviewed by BDC before presentation for approval by the Board. The Board is also responsible for engaging the auditor for annual reporting purposes. All operating businesses are audited annually.

OLBDC’s Board is made up of Onion Lake Cree Nation members together with outside directors from the local business community and senior staff from other Onion Lake organizations.
 

Onion Lake Business Development Corporation serves three main clients:

•Onion Lake Cree Nation leadership;
•Onion Lake Cree Nation members; and
•Onion Lake operating businesses.
 

OLBDC takes the lead role in investment evaluation and due diligence, corporate governance and treasury services as the agent of the Onion Lake Cree Nation Council.

We provide entrepreneurial coaching and support services to our members who require assistance with launching a new enterprise.

Finally, we are the “glue” that keeps the operating businesses owned by Onion Lake driving in a strategic direction that is appropriate for each business, but also for the whole group of businesses. We identify resource needs and look for synergies that will strengthen our portfolio of businesses.
