Governance
The Onion Lake Cree Nation is committed to the development of self-government and the capacity to manage its own affairs. Accordingly, the management of an increasing number of programs has been taken in order to provide the membership with essential and primary services. This philosophy and purpose is designed to further the goal of self-determination and recognizes the responsibility of Chief and Council as the elected officials of the community.
OLCN Vision:
A Proud and Self-reliant ‘Nehiyow’ Indigenous Nation that believes in their Inherent and Treaty rights, as a people and to protect and exercise the individual and collective rights to secure family and individual benefits in physical, mental, emotional and spiritual wellness.
OLCN Mission:
Leadership working in collaboration with their grassroots to form an OLCN Integrated Approach and with our citizenship and partnerships to effectively implement relevant Government and Governance Models to achieve innovative solutions for our Cree Nation’s aspirations of Self-Reliance, Economic Self-Sufficiency and Community Wellness.

We employ fully qualified staff in all positions and we commit ourselves to recruiting and training our staff to meet this need.
We structure our Cree government and governance within an implemented, integrated Framework to optimize the Elder’s inherent wisdom, including the work experiences, skills and contributions of our leadership and staff.
3. Family Wellness:
We value the family as the heart of the Onion Lake Cree Nation.
We work collaboratively to promote family and community wellness that goes beyond the prevention of illness and disease.
We encourage the wisdom and balance of Cree indigenous and western worldview knowledge for physical, mental, social, spiritual and economic wellness in the individual, the family, the community and the world in which we live.
